Elucidating the homeostatic mechanism of tissue cell population
Gene Regulation Research・ Assistant Professor ・ Ryutaro Akiyama
The tissue homeostasis maintains the homogeneity, morphology, and function of the tissue by suppressing or eliminating abnormal cells that continuously arise in tissues. We have studied the mechanism of homeostasis with some experimental models. In this review, I introduce two examples from our recent studies. First, I present a study using a somite formation model in mouse embryos to show how vertebral malformations occur. Furthermore, I describe a study that used an epithelial cell culture system to elucidate a novel mechanism for extruding abnormal cells from the tissue.
