The NPF7.3/NRT1.5 is an indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) transporter involved in Arabidopsis root gravitropism

The plant hormone auxin plays crucial roles in many aspects of plant growth and development. Indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) is the major naturally occurring auxin which is synthesized from indole-3-butyric acid (IBA). However, the physiological role of IBA in plant growth and development is still elusive. In collaboration with a group by Dr. Mitsunori Seo in RIKEN Institute, we found that Arabidopsis NPF1.7/NRT1.5 transporter functions as an intercellular uptake of IBA, and IBA plays an important role in root gravitropism. Our results are an important findings that demonstrates the role of IBA in environmental response in plants. Our recent studies suggest that IBA is also involved in stress response. Therefore, the new role of IBA in plant growth, development and stress response will be revealed in the future.
