The Bio Summer Camp 2025 was held

The 21st Bio Summer Camp 2025 was held on August 26th – 28th. The Bio Summer Camp is an annual graduate program that aims to facilitate students’ research progress through discussions with their advisors and others, and to promote their presentation and communication skills in English.
This year, we were able to hold this event with faculty from overseas universities also, for the first time in six years.

This year, 59 doctoral students (D1 and D2) and 14 master students (M2) who intend to proceed to the doctoral course participated, along with 1 student from Kyoto University of Advanced Science and 2 students from Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology and gave poster presentations.

D2 students delivered 15-minute oral presentations in English, including Q&A. Thanks to the individual lessons given by our English teacher at each appropriate level, the students’ presentations were at high quality as if it was an actual international conference. Every student had a great experience. For the adviser hearings, D2 students had active discussions with their advisors about research progress for 45 minutes. Also, at the oral sessions, the students not only gave talks but also served as chairpersons, and they had active discussions in English during the Q&A sessions.

D1 students, along with students from Kyoto University of Advanced Science and Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology, gave a 90-second short introduction about their posters prior to their poster presentations. Some students looked nervous, but they tried to attract the audience by presenting a well-organized summary of their research.
During the poster session for D1, M2 students, and students from Kyoto University of Advanced Science and Nagahama Institute of Bio-Science and Technology, active discussions took place not only with advisors and students in the same field but also with faculty and students from other fields.

This year also featured the Best Presentation Award, given to students delivering outstanding oral presentations.
The presenters were voted by students and faculty who attended the summer camp based on their slides, speaking style, and Q&A, and three presenters among them were awarded certificates and prizes as the best presenters.

The success of Summer Camp this year again was a good opportunity to recognize that the students are achieving key goals in the Biological Science graduate program.
