2024 International Student Workshop was held

The 2024 International Student Workshop was held at the campus of University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB) for 7 days from October 20th to 26th, 2024.
The total of 58 students from University of California Davis (UCD, 10 students), Chinese Academy of Sciences Institute of Genetic and Development Biology (CAS-IGDB, 18 students) and Division of Biological Science at NAIST (30 D2 students) participated in this year’s workshop.

During the ice-breaking activity on the first day, we were able to quickly get to know each other as we toured the sightseeing spots of the campus. In the first half of the workshop, each student gave a 20-minute presentation and participated in a 10-minute Q&A session under the supervision of a rotating student chairperson. In addition, students from the three universities worked in small groups on a project to compile videos and skits on various topics in biology.

In the second half of the workshop, the venue was moved to IGDB, located in the heart of Beijing, where a symposium was held. Not only student presentations, but also research presentations by the professors from each university made the meeting very meaningful. Lively discussions could be seen everywhere at the poster session, and it was a good opportunity to exchange research in a different way from the oral presentations. At the “Farewell Party,” the venue was filled with a sense of togetherness while performances were given by each university, and students from the three countries deepened engagement. The visits to the Great Wall, Forbidden City, and National Palace Museum, guided by the Chinese students, were also good memories.

We hope that the friendships created not only through research exchange but also through cultural exchange will be an invaluable asset for the students of the three countries. We would like to thank all the teachers, staff, and students of the Chinese Academy of Sciences for their warm hospitality in organizing the meeting.
