UCD Online Journal Seminar was held.
The Biological Science (BS) Division, NAIST and the University of California Davis (UCD) jointly hold journal seminars using the remote meeting system in January-March every year. This year marked the 11th year since the program began in 2013, and 7 graduate/research students from NAIST’s BS division and 7 PhD students from UCD participated. In addition, 2 students from International Christian University (ICU) joined the program this year, making it an international seminar program in which the three universities collaborate.
In this program, two to three students will lead each of the seven seminars to discuss the latest research papers in plant science. This was formerly done using the Polycom system to link two lecture halls, but since the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of Zoom, which has become more common, has allowed more effective discussions and sharing of materials.
International student workshop is planned to take place face to face in UCD next fiscal year. Not only has it been a good training for discussion in English, but also a great chance for 1st year doctoral students to make friendship with the students they will stay with in the U.S. in 6 months from now.
