Why did you choose Division of Biological Science at NAIST?
Two years before coming to NAIST, I had the opportunity to experience the research culture in Japan for three years and I like it. After one year, I joined NAIST pre-screening in the division of Biological Science and I really like the research from Prof. Shosuke Yoshida sensei's laboratory. So, I decide to try my luck in applying for the phD enrollment in this division.
What do you like about Division of Biological Science at NAIST?
The facilities are sufficient for me to conduct my research. Besides, it is very fast to obtain the ordered items for experiments.
What is your research topic?
My research topic is searching for the novel hydrolytic enzyme that involved in PET degradation.
How is the atmosphere in your lab?
The atmosphere in my laboraoty is very nice where everyone is friendly and kind. It is easy to get help from my sensei, lab technician and labmates.
What are your goals for the future?
I would like to work in the industry field in Japan. To be more specific, I like to involve in the work that can contribute in the health care of people or saving the environment.
What are your recomended place around NAIST?
I personally like the ikoma mountain because not only there is a theme park (Ikoma Sanjo Amusement Park), but also a very nice temple (Hozan-ji) filled with serenity and a restaurant (Lucky Garden) with nice view. Beside the resaturant, the theme park and temple are easily accessible by public transports.
What are your tips for enjoying life at NAIST?
It is important to maintain a work-life balance, as well as taking care of the health. Some times, I will have the movie night at the student dormitory lounge with my friends. Besides, I also go out with my labmates to have some good foods to release the stress from facing difficulties in the research or having small celebrations after presentations.
How comfortable is the dormitory?
It is comfortable to stay in the dormitory. It is quiet and dark during the night which suits my sleeping preference. However, since I am coming from Malaysia which is hot for the entire year, I have difficulty in adapting while using the tap water in the room because the water is very cold especially during the winter.
What is your motto?
Always be happy and face all difficulties with calm
Please praise yourself!
Always maintain the happiness as you are experiencing now because every problems you faced in the life will always have a solution.
Tell us about something you think that only you have experienced.
I have a very fun and crazy best friend. Before coming to NAIST, we studied in the same university but never have the chance to know each others until we come here for pre-screening. He always does something that is out of my expectations and makes my life in NAIST more interesting.
